Omega's steel dress watches of the 1950s have long been admired for the clarity of their proportions. Built in the years when the brand's hand-wound calibres set the standard for everyday precision, they were made to be worn without ceremony. This example is distinguished by a silvered dial carrying Arabic numerals only at the quarters, a configuration collectors know simply as the quarter Arabic.

The stainless steel case measures 34mm across excluding the crown and 43.7mm from lug to lug, with slim tapered lugs and a plain polished bezel. Nothing is added for effect, which allows the dial to take center stage. The snap-on case back carries the marks of decades of wear.

Applied faceted batons mark the hours between the 12, 3, 6 and 9, and dauphine hands sweep across a finely printed minute track. The silvered surface has warmed gently with age, shifting between cream and pale silver as the light moves across it.

At its heart beats a manually wound movement driving the central seconds hand. The daily ritual of winding reinforces the connection between the wearer and the mechanism within.

Completing the watch is a black crocodile-embossed leather strap on a pin buckle, carefully matched to complement the polished steel case. It fits wrists up to 18cm, and the 18mm lug width allows the strap to be changed freely.
