The De Ville has carried OMEGA's dress watch philosophy since the line became independent in 1967, and through the 1970s it grew into the brand's most complete statement of formal design. This example is distinguished by a gold-plated cushion case and a golden dial finished in fine vertical stripes that catch the light in narrow bands.
The case measures 30mm across excluding the crown and 35mm from lug to lug, a compact cushion silhouette whose polished flanks curve without interruption into short lugs. A flat bezel frames the dial closely, without ornamentation of any kind. The snap back is brushed stainless steel, engraved only with the Omega symbol and the De Ville name, and light traces of wear across the polished surfaces record the years of use.
The dial is golden, worked in fine vertical stripes that shift from bright to shadow as the wrist turns. Slender applied baton markers, blackened for contrast, mark the hours against a matching set of hands, and the only text is the Omega symbol above center and SWISS MADE at the foot. A faint mottling has formed across the upper portion of the surface, the quiet record of the decades since. With neither a seconds hand nor a date aperture, the composition remains entirely undisturbed.
At its heart is a quartz caliber, the technology OMEGA took up early and refined with unusual care through this period. It drives the hours and minutes alone, leaving the dial free of any restless motion. Precision here is a matter of course rather than display, which suits the watch's purpose exactly.
Completing the watch is a black leather strap, carefully matched to sharpen the contrast with the gold case and preserve its formal character. Not original to the watch, it meets the case at 19mm and fits a wrist of up to 18.5cm, closing on a gold-tone pin buckle.
