OMEGA Seamaster Golden Patina Dial 1960s

Introduced in 1948 to mark Omega's centenary, the Seamaster was conceived not as a diving instrument but as a watch for town, sea and country. By the 1960s the line had settled into its most confident form: a slim waterproof case, a date at three, and a self-winding movement that asked nothing of its owner. This example is distinguished by a dial that has warmed over six decades into a soft golden champagne.

The stainless steel case measures 34mm across excluding the crown and 43mm from lug to lug, with faceted lugs that catch the light along their length. A snap-back seals the watch, its centre carrying the embossed Seamaster seahorse that has marked the line from the beginning. Scratches and wear have collected across the back over the years, while the front holds its shape and polish. Without unnecessary ornamentation, the case allows the dial to take center stage.

The dial has aged into a warm golden champagne, its fine grain shifting between cream and honey as the light moves across the surface. Applied faceted baton markers, doubled at twelve, are set above it, with a framed date window at three. Steel baton hands and a slim central seconds hand read cleanly against the tone. At six, SWISS MADE T records the original tritium.

At its heart beats an automatic movement, wound by the motion of the wearer and carrying the date at three. The self-winding calibres Omega built through the 1960s are what established the Seamaster's reputation for running quietly and without fuss. It is a mechanism made to be used rather than admired.

Completing the watch is a vintage steel bracelet, carefully matched to complement the case and preserve its period character. It is not original to the watch, and its rounded links echo the softness the case has taken on. It fits wrists up to 17cm and sits on 18mm lugs, so it can be changed to suit.
