OMEGA Seamaster Honey Tropical Dial 1950s

Introduced in 1948 to mark Omega's centenary, the Seamaster was conceived not as a diving instrument but as a watch for town, sea and country. Its waterproof case, built around a gasket design borrowed from submarine engineering, made it the most versatile watch in the catalogue. This example is distinguished by a dial that has aged into a deep honey tone, mottled unevenly across its surface.

The stainless steel case measures 33mm across excluding the crown and 40mm from lug to lug, with slim tapered lugs and a polished bezel. The snap-back carries the engraved seahorse that came to mark the line, now softened by decades of wear. Without unnecessary ornamentation, the case allows the dial to take center stage.

What began as a pale silvered dial has turned to warm honey, the patina settling in a pattern no two examples share. Applied faceted baton markers, doubled at twelve, catch the light against it. Dauphine hands and a slim central seconds hand keep the reading clear, and the printed minute track remains legible throughout.
