SEIKO Dolce Classic Arabic Dial 1980s

A Seiko Dolce from the 1980s. Dolce was Seiko's dress watch line, made in slim cases a step above the regular range. The dial is the reason to own this one: an ivory outer track with gold Arabic numerals and black dot markers frames a cream centre panel pressed with a fine waffle texture, so the middle and the edge return light differently and the small dial gains depth. Inside is the quartz Cal.5E30, a two-hand movement with no seconds hand or date, which keeps the case thin and the dial uncluttered. It comes on a black leather strap, and it sits as easily under a shirt cuff as it does with a knit.

The case is gold plated with a stainless steel back. There are light marks from use, but no major damage. It measures 25.5mm across (excluding crown) and 35mm lug to lug, with a 16mm lug width. The cut corners give the rectangle an octagonal outline, and the short lugs keep it low on the wrist, so the small case sits neatly in place.

Seen up close, the ivory outer part of the dial has fine hairline crazing, the kind of ageing painted dials develop over decades. It is visible in the close-up photograph and does not reach the textured centre. At arm's length the dial reads as a soft, warm ivory, and the raised numerals catch the light as the wrist turns. It wears its age openly, and the contrast between the two textures is still clear.
