t is not merely gold, nor merely an object…
Its deep crimson body seems almost as if a soul resides within it. The rich red hue resonates like a heartbeat, giving a powerful sense of energy to anyone who lays eyes upon it. Simply looking is not enough — it stirs a desire to touch it, and beyond that, to possess it. It awakens a primal urge to make it one’s own.
There is something hidden within it — something capable of captivating anyone who sees it, almost as if it holds the power to move the human heart itself.
Today, the model exists exclusively in solid gold, making it something of an anomaly within the modern Rolex lineup. However, when the first references 6500 and 6511 were introduced in 1954, steel versions also existed, and this lineage continued into Ref. 6611.
The Ref. 1803, which later became available only in full gold, could be seen as a statement piece — a pinnacle model that represented Rolex’s dedication to luxurious materials. In that sense, it holds a unique place within the history of Rolex.
Even today, the name “President” remains synonymous with the highest tier within the Rolex collection.
This devotion to material is immediately apparent in this piece. Though crafted from solid 18k gold, it displays a distinctly warm, reddish tone. The alloy naturally contains copper, and when gold is set at 750, the remaining 250 parts determine the color and character of the metal depending on the proportion of copper used.
Compared to the more common yellow gold examples, pink gold pieces from this era — including Datejust models — appear on the market only rarely.
The example presented here is particularly special: a Ref. 1802, distinguished by its smooth bezel.
While the caseback number corresponds to the shared component used for Ref. 1803, the lug engraving at the 6 o’clock position clearly reads “1802.”
Simply encountering such a piece is nothing short of miraculous, and the moment you do, it leaves a profound impression.
In today’s global market, examples like this almost never appear.
Naturally, the bracelet is also correct — a Swiss-made solid 18k pink gold President bracelet. The vintage hallmark is unmistakable, with the small protruding Rolex crown logo, a detail that makes this bracelet particularly scarce even among President bracelets.
As expected, all three hands are crafted in pink gold.
And then there is the dial.
The brown dial, capable of pulling the viewer into its enchanting world at a single glance, is what collectors often refer to as a “tropical dial.” This coloration emerges only through decades of aging and environmental influence — a phenomenon sometimes described as almost mythical among collectors.
It is precisely this transformation that elevates the presence and value of this watch to an extraordinary level.
