OMEGA De Ville Champagne Dial 1970s

Produced in the 1970s, the OMEGA De Ville line represented the brand's dress watch at its most considered — balanced proportions, and no ornament beyond what the design asked for. This example is distinguished by a softly cushioned gold-tone case and a brushed champagne dial that shifts with the light.

The case measures 32mm excluding the crown and 37mm from lug to lug, a gold-plated form closed by a stainless steel back. Its flanks draw inward before turning into short, downswept lugs, which lets the watch sit low and close on the wrist. Without a bezel of any width, the case gives almost its entire face to the dial.

The dial carries a fine vertical brushing that reads champagne in daylight and deepens toward bronze in shadow. Applied baton markers and slim faceted hands sit against it without interruption, and the framed date window at three keeps the only complication contained. The signature is restricted to the Omega symbol, the word AUTOMATIC, and DE VILLE below the center.

An automatic movement drives the watch, wound by the ordinary motion of the wrist and requiring no daily attention. The steel case back shows the light scratches of a watch that was worn rather than stored.

Completing the watch is a dark brown leather strap, carefully matched to complement the gold-tone case and preserve its classic aesthetic. It is not original to the watch, and the 18mm lug width leaves it simple to change.
