OMEGA Arabic & Triangle Index Small Seconds 1940s

OMEGA's dress watches of the 1940s were built on chronometric precision rather than ornament, and that restraint is what still makes them read as modern today. This example is distinguished by a silver dial on which outline Arabic numerals alternate with slender triangular markers.

The stainless steel case measures 32.5mm excluding the crown and 40mm from lug to lug, with the slim faceted lugs typical of the period. A snap-on back and a narrow polished bezel keep the profile low, without unnecessary ornamentation, allowing the dial to take center stage.

The dial holds a soft silver tone, with outline numerals at twelve, two, four, eight and ten and triangular markers filling the remaining hours. A recessed small seconds register at six is finished with fine concentric circles. Slender leaf hands sweep across the surface, and the composition reads as balanced rather than decorated.

Within the case beats a manually wound movement, driving the hours, minutes and small seconds and nothing more. Nothing on the dial announces it, which is entirely in keeping with how these watches were conceived. The daily ritual of winding reinforces the connection between the wearer and the mechanism within.

Completing the watch is a black leather strap, carefully matched to complement the steel case and preserve its classic aesthetic. Fitted to the 17mm lugs, it accommodates wrists up to 18cm and can be exchanged for another of the same width.
