A striking 1970s Omega De Ville distinguished by its deep blue dial, unconventional rectangular architecture, and dramatically faceted crystal—an aesthetic closely associated with Omega’s experimental design language of the Andrew Grima era.
The crystal is the defining element of the watch. Cut with broad, angular facets around its perimeter, it behaves almost like a gemstone, refracting light along the edges and creating changing reflections over the dial. The beveled corners echo the geometry of the case, giving the entire watch a sculptural, jewel-like presence.
Beneath it sits a remarkably restrained blue dial. Conventional hour markers are reduced to fine linear accents at the cardinal positions, accompanied by slender hands, the Omega signature, and discreet “DE VILLE” lettering. This extreme simplicity provides a deliberate contrast to the complexity of the faceted crystal surrounding it.
The rectangular case continues the geometric theme with clipped corners and short, straight lugs. Viewed from the side or at an angle, the relationship between metal, crystal, and dial becomes particularly apparent: rather than treating the crystal simply as protection for the dial, it becomes an essential part of the watch’s architecture.
More object of design than conventional dress watch, this De Ville captures the experimental spirit that made Omega’s 1970s creations so compelling. Its blue dial remains quiet and minimal, while the faceted crystal transforms light itself into decoration.
