OMEGA Black Gilt Patina Dial 1950s

A striking 1950s Omega automatic whose greatest character lies in a black gilt dial transformed by decades of natural aging.

The dial has developed a highly expressive mottled patina, with deep black areas giving way to irregular brown, bronze, and earthy tones across the surface. Rather than appearing uniform, the aging creates an almost organic texture, ensuring that the appearance of this example could never be precisely repeated.

Against this dark surface, the gilt details remain remarkably powerful. Large Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9 are combined with sharply sculpted applied hour markers, while matching gold-tone hands create a strong contrast against the aged dial. A recessed subsidiary seconds register at 6 o’clock adds depth and preserves the balanced proportions characteristic of mid-century watchmaking.

The polished case and elegantly extended lugs frame the dial without distracting from it, while the domed crystal further enhances the unmistakably vintage profile.
