SEIKO Dolce Rectangular Gold Dial Quartz 1985

A slim rectangular dress watch from Dolce, the dress watch line Seiko introduced in 1980, made in April 1985. The gold dial has a soft sunburst finish that brightens and dims as the wrist turns. There is no seconds hand, so nothing sweeps across the face and it keeps a calm look all day. Inside is the quartz Cal.7731, so there is nothing to wind. We fitted it with a brown croc-embossed leather strap, and the warm brown sits well with the gold at the office or at dinner.

The case is gold plated with a stainless steel back. It shows light marks from use, and the steel back has fine scratches, but there is no major damage. It measures 24mm across (excluding crown) and 35.5mm lug to lug, with an 18mm lug width. A polished bezel with cut corners frames the dial, so the edges catch the light in thin lines as the wrist moves. The case is narrow and thin, so it sits close to the wrist and slips easily under a shirt cuff.

The dial is the original gold. Fine printed gold batons mark the hours, with a single applied, grooved bar at 12, and the slim gold hands match them. The layout leaves wide open space around the "Dolce" script. Under light the gold spreads evenly across the face, and the one raised marker at 12 gives the plain dial a clear point of focus.
