A slim dress watch from Seiko's Dolce line, the collection Seiko launched in 1980 as its dress watch range, made in 1989. Its main appeal is the dial: a gold surface with a fine woven texture that picks up light in small flecks, so it glows warm instead of shining flat. Inside is Seiko's quartz Cal.9531, so there is nothing to wind and it keeps time with very little attention. We paired it with a black leather strap, which is not original to the watch, and it sits as comfortably with a suit as it does with a knit.
The case is gold plated (SGP) with a stainless steel back. The back shows fine scratches from use, but there is no major damage and the gold on the front is in good shape. It measures 28.5mm across (excluding crown) and 35mm lug to lug, with a 17mm lug width. The sides of the case carry a fine textured finish that frames the polished bezel, and the crown is set with a dark cabochon. The case is thin and compact, so it slips under a shirt cuff and sits in proportion on a smaller wrist.
The dial is original, and the code printed at six, 9531-5000, matches the case back. Applied gold baton indices, doubled at twelve, sit on the textured gold surface with slim hands and a fine seconds hand. In direct light the surface turns bright and grainy, and in shade it settles into a soft, even gold, so the face changes each time the wrist turns.
