SEIKO Dolce Champagne Gold Dial Quartz 1984

A rectangular dress watch from Dolce, the line Seiko built for the Japanese market around thin quartz movements, made in September 1984. The champagne dial has a fine brushed finish, and a thin black line traces a second rectangle inside it, so the dial reads as a frame within a frame. Inside is the quartz Cal.9520, a two-hand movement with no seconds hand and no date, which keeps the face clean. It comes on a vintage gold-toned metal bracelet with textured links and a fold-over clasp, and it looks as right with a suit as it does with a knit.

The case is gold plated (SGP) with a stainless steel caseback. There are light marks from use but no major damage. It measures 25mm across (excluding crown) and 35mm lug to lug, with a 17mm lug width. The corners are cut at an angle, giving the case an octagonal outline, and the polished edge catches the light around the dial. At this size it sits flat on the wrist and slips easily under a shirt cuff.

The dial is the original champagne dial, signed SEIKO QUARTZ at the top and Dolce in script near six. A single applied Roman XII sits at twelve, with fine printed markers for the other hours and slim gold-toned hands. In bright light the dial glows a warm gold, and in shade it settles to a soft, muted tone that matches the bracelet.
