SEIKO ARC White Dial Two-Tone Quartz 1980s

The ARC line belongs to the years when SEIKO turned its attention from technical display toward thinness and line, and it remains one of the quietest expressions of that discipline. This example is distinguished by an ivory dial incised with a geometric framework of fine lines, drawn so lightly that it reads as texture rather than ornament.

The rectangular stainless steel case measures 21mm excluding the crown and 28mm from lug to lug, its slim profile stepped once at the bezel and finished with gold-tone accents. The caseback is left plain but for its stamping, and the whole is built to disappear under a cuff rather than announce itself.

Ivory fills the dial, framed by a gold Roman numeral at twelve and applied gold batons at three, six and nine. The incised lines gather light at an angle and vanish when the wrist is level, so the face shifts between pattern and plain surface as the watch moves.

Powered by SEIKO's Caliber 7320 quartz movement, the watch keeps time with the unfussy accuracy that defined the period, its slim calibre allowing the case to stay as thin as the design demands.

Completing the watch is SEIKO's original two-tone bracelet, integrated with the case so that the lines of the links continue those of the dial. It is fitted to the 12mm lug width and adjustable to a wrist of up to 17cm.

Slim, understated, and unmistakably vintage, this ARC captures the restraint that Japanese dress watchmaking arrived at in the 1980s.
