Crafted by ROLEX, the Cellini line represents the brand's most refined and dress-oriented expression—distinct from its sport models. Reference 4016 pushes that idea furthest, framing a small rectangular dial between rows of vertical gold bars. This 1976 example is distinguished by a speckled blue dial that half a century has turned into something no other watch shares.

The case is solid 18K yellow gold, measuring 25mm across and 32mm from lug to lug. Fluted bars run along the upper and lower edges of the bezel, catching light in narrow bands and giving the rectangular form its rhythm. The flanks are left plain, so the ornament stays where it belongs and the dial takes center stage.

The dial is why this reference is remembered. Once a pale silver-blue, it has deepened into a mottled field of teal and grey, flecked with darker marks that shift with the angle of the light. There are no numerals and no applied markers—only the crown and signature at twelve, and two slender hands. The reverse was inspected and shows no signs of alteration or refinishing.

At its heart beats a manually wound Rolex movement, now running to within ten seconds a day. The daily ritual of winding reinforces the connection between the wearer and the mechanism within.

Completing the watch is a vintage black leather strap, carefully matched to complement the gold case and the cool tone of the dial. It fits wrists up to 18cm and is fastened by a yellow gold pin buckle, with a 22mm lug width for those who prefer to change it.
