The Submariner reference 5513 was produced by Rolex from 1962 until approximately 1989, making it one of the longest-running references in the history of the Submariner line.
The Submariner itself was introduced in 1953 as one of the first commercially available dive watches. The 5513 followed earlier references such as the 5508 and 5512 and became the definitive no-date Submariner of its era.
Unlike the chronometer-certified 5512, the 5513 was not officially certified, which is why its dial typically features two lines of text above 6 o’clock rather than four. Over its nearly three decades of production, it evolved through documented gilt and matte dial variations, early pointed crown guards, and later rounded case profiles.
With its 40mm Oyster case, acrylic crystal, and 200-meter depth rating, the 5513 embodies the pure, functional tool-watch aesthetic that defines the vintage Submariner.
Today, it stands as one of the most studied and historically significant references within the Submariner lineage.
