The timepiece presented here is the Breitling Transocean, a model whose name evokes the effortless crossing of oceans. Designed to be worn with the same natural ease as traveling across open seas, the Transocean was introduced as Breitling’s first ultra-thin caliber and is also widely recognized as Breitling’s first chronometer-certified model.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this watch lies in the exceptional quality of the movement within. The Caliber B126, which later gave rise to the chronometer-certified Caliber B124, represents a major technical evolution in Breitling’s automatic movements.
Earlier systems relied on a reverser mechanism positioned between the rotor and the mainspring barrel. With the B125, Breitling adopted a more advanced solution in order to achieve a slimmer construction. By employing two switching wheels and introducing a switching rocker winding system, the number of components could be reduced while maintaining efficient winding in a single direction.
This design not only allowed the movement to become more compact, but also preserved the use of a large screw balance, enhancing both precision and visual beauty. The result is a movement whose mechanical elegance is simply breathtaking.
Even the rotor itself reflects the importance of the model. Shaped like the wings of a bat, the rotor is engraved with the model name “TRANSOCEAN.” This detail alone suggests that Breitling held particularly high expectations for this model compared with others in its lineup.
Breitling has historically changed its emblem design numerous times—more than ten variations since 1942—each marking a new era in the brand’s history. Around 1964, the brand introduced the emblem featuring two aircraft, often referred to as the “Twin Wing” or “Twin Jet” logo, which began appearing across various Breitling models.
For this particular watch, however, Breitling created a distinctive identity. The caseback is deeply engraved with the name “TRANSOCEAN,” serving almost as a coat of arms for the model itself.
Further emphasizing its authenticity and prestige, the watch bears the **French 18-carat gold hallmark—the eagle head—**clearly stamped on the caseback, lugs, and case side. The material itself is solid 18-carat rose gold, giving the watch a rich crimson tone that radiates an unforgettable aura.
This presence is not merely aesthetic; it reflects the significance of the first-generation model, a piece that carries undeniable historical importance and status.
There is little doubt that the fortunate individual who comes to own this remarkable Transocean will possess not only a watch of extraordinary craftsmanship, but also a companion capable of bringing a lifetime of satisfaction.
